New Diesel Additive Formulation from ORYXE Energy to Help Texas Fight Air Pollution at a Lower Cost
ORYXE® LED technology wins unprecedented sixth approval from the State of Texas to reduce NOx emissions; allows fuel producers to treat diesel at a significantly lower treat rate
Irvine, Calif. – Sept. 3, 2008 - In an effort to enhance affordability and flexibility
for its customers, ORYXE Energy has received approval from the State of Texas for
a new formulation of the company’s emissions- cutting diesel fuel additive. The new product, ORYXE® LED+, has gone through extensive emissions testing and meets
the standards of the TxLED (Texas Low Emission Diesel) program. TxLED is the cleaner-burning
diesel fuel mandated for use in 110 Texas counties to improve air quality.
The approval of the new formulation by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) gives diesel producers two distinct benefits. First, ORYXE LED+ lowers the
treat rate from 12 milliliters down to 4.25 milliliters per gallon of diesel to
produce a TxLED-compliant fuel. The new treat rate reduces the cost of the additive
to only a few cents per gallon. ORYXE LED+ also has a higher flash point, allowing
for safer transport and storage.
“At a time when many companies in our industry are being forced to raise prices,
we believe it’s remarkable to deliver our proven technology at a lower price,” says
James M. Cleary, chairman and chief executive officer of ORYXE Energy. “This new
formulation lowers the treat rate but produces the same results with emissions reduction
because we’ve used a higher concentration of our active ingredient.”
The active, proprietary ingredient in the ORYXE Energy’s additives is biodegradable,
non-toxic and compatible with fossil fuels and biodiesel.
The latest tests at the West Virginia University Engine and Emissions Research Laboratory
show that ORYXE LED+ meets the requirements of the TxLED program, which was created to reduce oxides of nitrogen (NOx) from diesel fuel. The new approval will be publicly
available on the TCEQ Website, which also contains ORYXE Energy’s prior approvals.
“Not only has ORYXE Energy been able to pass the Texas test once, but we’ve now
met the requirements and received approval six times for our additives in the past
four years,” says Cleary. “That shows the strength of our company and technology,
as well as our commitment to do everything we can to make our product more affordable
for our customers.”
Numerous fuel producers and government fleets including the City of Dallas, City
of Austin and the Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority use ORYXE Energy
diesel and biodiesel additives to reduce emissions. The technology is removing thousands
of tons of NOx from the air in Texas every year.
With the TCEQ approval, all ORYXE Energy customers will be migrated from the current
product to the new formulation.
